About
When typing really fast you're in a zone you can't explain.
Like only thinking of typing the spacebar while the rest of the words appear mush.
There's no theoretical limit except a practical limit to how fast your fingers can go when you're in this zone.
Those who start young can train the common English words to this degree with extreme accuracy and consistency. Even those who start late given the right amount of effort (and supporting keyboard) can achieve equivalent high speeds although their CNS might not be able to keep up the consistency. I started at 19 and quickly reached 180wpm speeds by the time I was 21. I could never consistently keep up typing but during the one year I consistently did in my late 20s during COVID time I was typing 170 average and 300 peaks before I stopped having time again. Nowhere near the best but proud of what I achieved with my very stubborn typing routines and late start and lack of proper commitment and what not.
Years later I came back with a much reduced average speed and discovered that if your neurons are still firing, it's possible in words like power repeated 20 times on the repeat quote universe (119 characters including space) to achieve speeds at or exceed 500 wpm. Unless I warm up, it's hard to get 400wpm but given perfect race conditions I can achieve 440s once I feel I'm completely in control (many other typists have) and just feel like I'm typing the spacebar while the rest of the characters feel mush and if everything aligns from start to finish then 500 or nearabouts (i got dq'd when i achieved this pace by the website) is the final speed. It's hard to explain why feeling 350s are hard to jumping to 500 when in the zone appears so easy but it's essentially the difference in what I call recognition script running in the head versus pummelling script where your fingers are just going with your mind in control and then finding little optimizations in that while still being in control until you feel like you're one with the text and your mind guides you further and further (no part of this is luck, it's just unlocking something that for most people is very hard to). Obviously it's easier repeating single words versus word groups and second most easiest repeating easy word groups but it's fun all the same discovering the magic unfold if you're of the curious type like me without discriminating but only wanting to find out how fast your fingers can go and understanding the art of the possible by reviewing the typing scene.
It was fun understanding how fast my basal ganglia could be exercised on this personal journey :)
